Step 1: Copy the YouTube link
In the YouTube app, open the video, tap Share, then Copy link. If you're watching in Safari, tap the address bar and copy the address.
Step 2: Convert in Safari
Open this page in Safari, tap the box above and paste the link. Keep 1080p — it uses H.264, which every iPhone can play. Tap Convert to MP4, then Download MP4. Safari asks whether you want to download the file; tap Download.
A small download arrow appears in the Safari address bar. Tap it to see progress.
Step 3: Move the MP4 into Photos
- Open the Files app and go to Downloads (under On My iPhone or iCloud Drive).
- Tap the video to open it.
- Tap the Share button and choose Save Video.
The video now appears in your Photos library, ready to edit, trim or share like any other video.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Nothing happens when I tap Download | Make sure you're in Safari, not inside the YouTube app's built-in browser. Copy this page's address into Safari. |
| I can't find the file | In Safari, tap the download arrow in the address bar, then the magnifying glass next to the file. Or check Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads to see where files are saved. |
| "Save Video" is missing | The download hasn't finished, or the file is 4K AV1. Older iPhones can't play AV1 — convert again at 1080p. |
| The video has no sound | Re-download the file. If the problem continues, try 720p. |
| My storage is full | 1080p video is roughly 10–25 MB per minute. Choose 720p or 480p for long videos. |
Which iPhones can play 4K downloads?
Our 4K files use the AV1 codec. iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 and newer models decode AV1 in hardware. On older iPhones, 4K files may not play or save — stick with 1080p.
